Rest, the gift of God

Rest is an integral part of human life. It's a well known fact that no living being in the universe can survive without rest.
Rest can be defined as getting relaxed from the worldly activities. The general form of resting is in the form of sleeping for a required amount of time. It can be in the form of a nap also.It can also be had by doing meditation which is more intense than the regular sleep.
The place of taking rest varies from person to person depending upon their status in the society. Poor can sleep happily in their tiny homes where as the affluent will have the luxury of having it in their sprawling mansions.
As a matter of fact, rest demands no cushion beds alone to sleep. We can witness the poor in under developed countries happily sleeping on the platforms where as some people despite having luxuries suffering from insomnia.
On the benifits side, they are alenty, if we take proper rest. After a hectic day's work if we take proper rest, it will rejuvanate our body and makes us ready for next day's work.
It seems God created "night" for the man to take rest only. The week ends, vacations are all meant for this purpose alone. On the contrary, many people are unable to come out of their activities and becoming prone to illness.
Lack of sleep results in many negative factors like anger, unable to cope up with daily activities, improper decisions etc. It takes the toll out of man which is quite evident in the people who works in night shifts.
Life is short and let us not misuse this God's given gift and live happily for the time we will be in this universe.

Arvind, I agree that life is short and we should not misuse the God-given gift of rest. We do need to rejuvenate our bodies and thank God for all his wonderful gifts.

learning to see rest as a gift in this hectic world is a real treasure.

Some of the best power naps I have ever taken was on the subways on my way to and from work. Even now, when I hear a train go by, I can remember those wonderful naps. You raised many good points. Nicely done.

You are so right. God's rest can be found in many places, if we are willing to seek it. God bless you.
