Where he goes no one knows
The sign on the door
Gone Fishing

Walking the streets night and day
Stopping to talk to those he meets
Handing out paper that in nice script
Inviting them to join him Sunday Morn

He approaches the homeless
The drunk and the doped
Sharing a few words
A few laughs and tears

He buys food for the hungry
Blankets for the cold
Leads children to shelters
Touching every soul

Everyone he meets
Hears love in his voice
As he reads them a sample
Of what could be for them

At home by the fire
His book in his hands
He prays to the Father
To pull in the harvest

Early Sunday morning
He walks out the door and down the road
Then stands in the pulpit
And speaks of the Lord

In the crowd below
The faces he sees
Are those he met
Out on the streets

On the door of his home
You will always see
A sign that says simply
“Gone Fishing, For the Lord”

Wonderful!

Your poetry is very evocative, and compelling.

A simple story, well told, those are the best kinds.

This was wonderful! If only it were that easy to get the lost to hear the good news, but the point is so well taken. It's possible if we go fishing. Simple message nicely told.

This is lovely. Such a good message, and I love how the ending creates a link back to the beginning. Nice touch.

VERY NICE POEM. IT KEPT MY INTEREST TO THE END, WHICH I LIKED VERY MUCH!

I thought that was wonderful. Taking the time out to talk to people like that and be accepting of people, I think that it can be as easy as that sometimes.
