THE MADNESS OF PHINEAS GALEN: Light Revealed

David Ian

Insist on sanity and be thought mad
or feign madness to be thought sane?
Hold steadfast to the truth to be deemed false
or falsify to preserve the Truth?

What is it, these contradictions,
When irresistible force meets immovable object?
When the fancy of Man is shaken to its foundations,
To what lengths shall we go,
To what depths shall we stoop,
To what fear shall we cling in order to preserve
The shadow of our illusions?

I see now why the Full Light of Truth
Veils itself in darkness and peeks out in minute pinpoints.
If the curtain were torn down,
The partition destroyed,
The gates flung open
And we beheld the purity of Truth ,
The ensuing collective cry of our shattered souls
From the blast of blinding revelation
Would split the skies and echo through the stars
As the death-knell of the spheres.

And so we hide and cower and shield our eyes
From the blinding Light of Truth
And revere its palest cast of reflection
As idols to the terrifying, consuming and glorious Light.

We live our lives sheltered from the Light,
For naked in Its presence,
We would surely shrivel and die.
We are protected in the dark,
The darkness is Mercy,
And it is to our shame,
We worship the Darkness for its kindness,
For its protection, and cuddle to the comfort it brings
And fear and revile the light.

I, for one, have had done with such cuddles and comfort
With dark shields and black shelters
I shun this sanctuary of security
And denounce this darkness that deceives

Consume me O Light!
I am no longer content with contentment
Consume me O Light!
I am no longer secure with security
Consume me, O Light!
Burn my soul with purity
Consume me O Light!

Leave not the dregs of doubt and despair
Consume me O Light!
Quicken me in the fires of Your radiance
Consume me O Light!

Light of Truth,
I defy the Deceit of Darkness
Come take me
I am ready.

This is a powerful piece filled with powerful imagery: "The ensuing collective cry of our shattered souls
From the blast of blinding revelation
Would split the skies and echo through the stars
As the death-knell of the spheres."

I just see a bit more hope...

Whoa David, this is some powerful stuff. "We live our lives sheltered from the Light,
For naked in Its presence,
We would surely shrivel and die.
We are protected in the dark,
The darkness is Mercy,
And it is to our shame,
We worship the Darkness for its kindness,
For its protection, and cuddle to the comfort it brings
And fear and revile the light." I understand what you are saying, and have most likely worshipped the dark as well as it was a sort of protection from myself..this definitely gave me food for thought.
