Resolutions are made to resolve a problem or situation. This is a word that we use just about everyday. However, focus your attention on when we hear this word more than any other time of the year. People tend to treat the word resolution like it is a fad and will only recognize and speak more about it at the end of a year. As some people prepare for the New Year, they make resolutions to better their personal appearances, change certain habits or make a vow to be prosperous. Unfortunately when the word resolution is used in that content, they are broken and put off to make good on the next year. Just like man making promises that are meant to be broken. So, instead of making resolutions, we need to pray. After all, the word resolution has no meaning at anytime without God.
No more New Year’s resolutions. How about in the New Year we start off with a prayer of repentance. We should seek God for constant change in our attitudes so that we may be able to instill love in our hearts for our fellow man. Once we allow God to change us on the inside, we can change the outside (Ps 51). We need to ask God for deliverance from those things that have us bound (Rom 8:21). If we want to be prosperous, let’s seek God first (Matt 6:33).
We don’t have to wait for another year or another day to make resolutions. We must turn to God right then and there and let him guide us through. Remember that nothing is too big or too small to ask of him. If we make a practice of this daily, we would have no need to make New Year resolutions or any other kind. Let God take charge and all we need to do is look to the hills and trust in him to fix and change. Remember God will not break his promises like man. God is resolution and nothing can be rectified without him.
