Intimacy / Worship

I have heard children of God state that you worship what you are closest to. You worship who or what occupies your focus. If you make anything your focus and spend the majority of your time with it; then chances are that’s what you worship. For some; work may be what they worship, for others it may be their automobiles, their favorite celebrity, and even money.

There are many facets of worship; there is no way to discuss all of them in one article. Many have done a wonderful job at discussing worship. To name a few: Tommy Tenney, Juanita Bynum, Rick Warren, and many more. The fact still remains, you worship who or what you are closest to, what you spend most of your time on, who you admire most, who you love most, and whom you are most intimate with.

You and I were born to worship God. It is for His pleasure that He created human life. God seeks worshippers, and for God to look for you, you must be a worshipper. When everything on earth is said and done, we will spend eternity worshipping Him.

Why didn’t God just create worshippers to worship Him if that’s what brings Him pleasure? God wanted it to be an individual choice. That is the secret of worshipping in truth. When you worship God because you want to and for no other reason. That is True Worship.

The words “no other reason” are a very deep and long subject, in which I will let you ponder those things in your own hearts. You will probably come up with dozens of answers as to why you worship God. But to worship in truth should be for “no other reason” than a word we all know the definition of. “DESIRE.”

Now that we have an understanding of worshipping in truth, let’s discuss worshipping in spirit. God is looking for worshippers that will worship Him in spirit and truth. God wants you to worship him from your own spirit. Your body is a shell with a soul and a spirit. Your spirit is in many ways connected to your soul, as is your humanly heart connected to arteries. Your spirit can be influenced by both good and evil. It is up to us to live a life of repentance and reject the things that are sin. Your natural heart reacts to the good things you consume as well as the bad. We need not to discuss that fact. Your spirit reacts in worship as to what you allow in it. Example: If you allow jealousy in your spirit, it will affect your spirit accordingly in worship, as well as you soul. Yet if you allow repentance into your spirit, repentance will effect your spirit as well as your soul (mind, will, and emotions), and will have an awesome effect on your worship to God. True repentance is simply, “more of God and less of me.” God created you to worship Him for “who He is”, not who you are.

If you’re a worshipper that worships God in spirit and truth, then “You are someone that desires to worship Him for who He is!”

One more time!
The mystery of “worshipping in spirit and truth” is:
The desire to worship God, just because of who He is!”

Before you can fully understand what you are, and who He is, you must have intimacy with Him. Then God will begin to reveal himself to you. When and only when you have intimacy with God, can you worship in spirit and truth. Now you understand fully what kind of worshipper God is looking for. Get intimate with Him, so that in His search for worshippers, He finds you!

Will He find you?

I enjoyed your piece. It is important to remember
that most people haven't
been to seminary. When you talk about worshipping in spirit and truth, you seem to get complex. I had a hard
time following you. If I
sat in your church and listened to that, I would
not know what you said.
I would be confused.

Thanks for your time reading and responding.

He that hath an ear; let him hear what the spirit says unto the church.

I appreciate how you point out that our worship is driven by our focus, and that there needs to be less of us and more of Him. I really related to this article. I did find the first half of the article to hold my attention more than the second.

I was thinking this sounds like a preacher, and could almost see a preacher giving this sermon, and lo and behold when I got to the bottom, found out you were a pastor.
I even heard a little of Blackby in this in a few lines here and there.
by the way I do like Blackby. (smile)_
