Labouring hard
Crossing the yard
Mudded
Weathered
He stands caked
Looking like life had passed him by
"I've come for me pay
I've finished the job
I've done me time
the clock's now passed nine"

He had worked every day
Through the summer sun
the winter rain
Through sadness, joy and pain
Labouring bone crunching hard
Crossing the yard
Mudded
Weathered
With a contented smile on his craggy, weathered features

This man worked hard
His job complete
He asked for nothing more than his dues
He asked not for praise or glory
He simply wanted all to see his story
To witness his work
To wonder
To think
To appreciate a life of toil
A life of hardship
A life dedicated to perfection
to belief
to honesty
He only asked for his dues

In return they evaluated
they critisized
they looked for fault
Nothing could be that perfect
that good
Nothing
They did not believe one man could be that honest
that hard working
without a reason
without self enhancement
without personal glory
They could not see the love for labour
The love of skill
The joy of creation
But he could

He stood
Caked in mud
Torn by briars
Flesh racked with pain
But they could not see
the love for you
the love for me
Yes
YOU & ME!
