How can we be of service to Jesus? John 6: 1-13 gives the account of Jesus blessing a lad’s five barley loaves and two fish. He fed a multitude of 5,000 people, with twelve baskets of bread fragments left over.
Consider the lad with the bread and fish. We don’t know why he was the only one with food. Perhaps he was on the way home from the market when he became curious as Jesus was passing by. He may have just followed, really becoming interested in his teachings. Maybe he too, like the other followers, had witnessed the healing miracles of Jesus. For whatever reason, he was in the right place at the right time to be of service to Jesus.
He must have had no idea how important what little he possessed would be to Jesus. Yet, it seems, without hesitation, he yielded it to the disciples. How he must have wondered what he was going to eat! Or what would his mother think when he returned home empty handed! But when Jesus gave thanks and blessed the fish and bread, the lad received back enough for himself. Then to his wonderment he saw more than enough food to feed the huge crowd.
How does this apply to us today?
We all have something to give to Jesus no matter how small it may seem to us, our talents, time, financial support, prayers or service to others.
Whatever we have, we should give it to Jesus freely to use as He determines. When He blesses and multiplies it, it will far exceed our expectations. These blessings will be used to help others while at the same time meet our individual needs.
Consider what you have to offer. What are your possibilities? You just might be like the lad with the bread and fish, in the right place at the right time. Are you ready for your possibilities to become realities in the service of His kingdom? Blessings await those who yield and entrust the outcome to Jesus.
John 6:9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves and two fish: but what are they among so many?
