VIP LIVING
A few days ago my husband and I were returning home from an outing. A bus whizzed by that was beautifully painted with various bright colors. An emblem of an eagle in flight covered the sides. Across it was written “V.I.P. Adventures” Only a quick glance and it was gone. But I wanted to know more! “Faster! Catch that bus,” I exclaimed! With that statement we were barreling down the interstate trying to catch this adventure bus to see just what the story was. With the happy traveler in view, we slowed a bit. Pulling along side the bus, we saw it was a Seniors Unlimited, Inc. Travel Tour from Pontiac, Michigan. We could see the passengers smiling and conversing. The thought came to me that indeed the title was right. “Very Important People” were aboard. Reflecting, I wondered about the contributions that group of people had made to the world around them.
Do we have happy memories of choices we have made so far in life? Do we see doors we’ve left tightly shut because of a lack of confidence, or from fear of the unknown?
Recently I learned a new word – octogenarian – meaning between the ages of 80 and 90. Moses was an octogenarian before his major life role started. Could it be that life itself had prepared him to be the great leader of his people at his ripe age? It took some coaxing from God Himself, but what if Moses had not walked through the door of obedience?
People might say some are divinely chosen to be special. I believe we have choices that make us who we are.
There is a work for us to do. We are all of this great planet earth, but we have our own smaller world we function in each day. This is the world, if not beyond, where we become a V.I.P. Doors of opportunity are there.
Corrie Ten Boom stated, “The measure of life, after all, is not its duration, but its donation.” Life’s everyday donations, perhaps insignificant to us, may ignite a spark of hope in another’s life. I would venture to guess there is a husband, a wife, a child or grandchild that even at this moment needs the touch of a V.I.P. to make that special difference in their life situation.
This is not Moses’ time. This is our time to shine, to be the V.I.P. we were created to be.
We must open our doors of opportunity with confidence knowing that we truly make a difference in the world around us.
