I really do not understand
Why Jesus Christ should come
To save the world from sin and shame,
He was God’s ONLY son!
I was so far away from him
Enjoying earthly pride.
He left his home in gloryland;
He bled for me and died.
The soldiers mocked him as they cast
Their lots, then laughed with scorn.
They gave him vinegar to drink
As he hung weak and worn.
All hell rejoiced, their work was done,
The son of man was dead.
E’en nature shook, the sky was dark
Before that wounded head.
Then early resurrection morn
The sad women drew near,
To pay their last respects, they thought,
But lo, he was not there!
In panic Mary rushed ahead,
“O Peter, come” she cried,
“They’ve stolen Jesus Christ away,
Behold, he’s not inside!”
Bewildered and confused they left,
Yet Mary, waiting, wept;
“Woman, whom seekest thou?” she turned
“Rabboni!” her heart leapt.
Conquering death he rose again
Then left to intercede
For us before God’s awesome throne
Our advocate indeed.
And one day soon, the sky will burst
Asunder, and we’ll see
The Son of God returning with
Power and victory.
Those who believe and love his name
Will rise to meet him there,
And dwell with him forevermore
In joy beyond compare.
