Days tumble by, but still the shock.
What ever could replace the piece
That, with my heart, does interlock?
I see your fingers open, curled.
The way they’ll always be to me.
Embracing love. Complete. Eternal.
For now, I know, you’ve been set free.
Though bent, adept, you tried to share.
Pursued the many scattered parts.
And oh, so gently shaped with care.
The many members of your heart.
This is your legacy.
I see your eyes -- that look you gave.
To see that it was now complete.
The path to plan. The illness stave.
Battered, yes, but not defeat.
Now bent, intent. I try again
To meet the many needs you met.
Put selfishness aside again.
And find and fix for good, but yet
I just won’t fit, you see.
The special place your piece was laid
Can scarce be filled by one like me.
You left a hole that’s custom made.
Shaped by Creator. Meant to be.
I fashion, now, to fill my loss,
With earthly tools this day.
To fix the hole, a piece. Much cost.
A beauty, made from finest clay.
But it’s not you.
Pieced memories are yet held in place.
Locked, lasting love forever more.
Frail clay has been expert-replaced
By gold; A gift from Heaven’s door.
The Lord has His great master plan.
A place for you and me, I’m told.
And in that place forever stands,
A lasting peace that’s made of gold.
