Michael snuggled down with his orphaned lamb on his hay bed. All was quiet and peaceful tonight in the sheep barn. His head was wrapped in the moonlight coming through an open window. A light spring breeze hummed lullabies in the nearby pines. A good night for the births, Michael thought to himself as he dozed off to sleep.
What was that?He awoke with a start. Something was wrong. He sat up and listened with the ear of a shepherd. All was quiet, nothing seemed amiss . . . but that was it. It was too quiet. He could not hear the contented munching of the ewes as they nibbled on the hay. He did not hear the young looking for their mothers. Where was Star? She should have been with him. He slowly stood up and peered into the moon lit barn. Something or someone was in here. He couldn't really see what it was, but he could feel a presence.
Just then he caught sight of little Star gazing at a form in a dark corner, by the door. Michael's heart began to pound so hard he was afraid it would be heard.
He looked around for a pitchfork, when he noticed all the sheep pointed in the direction of the door. What was going on here? They didn't seem to be frightened.
Michael heard a voice, a deep, quiet, gentle voice. “Hello, little Star.” He heard movement towards his little orphaned lamb. “You don't know me yet, little one, but one day you will. You and I and all of your kind will mingle and our lives will be interwoven together. That will be a beautiful day, won't it?”
Michael could not believe his eyes. The voice stepped into the moonlight. It was an enormous golden lion. Michael could not breathe.
He looked down at the now very vulnerable little lamb, and was in for a double shock. Star walked closer to the lion and baaed up at him. The creature leaned down and gave the orphaned sheep a little kiss.
Michael wanted to run, and he wanted to stay. Then the lion's massive face looked up and he saw eyes so magnetic, so warm and compassionate, he, too, ran toward the mighty animal and fell at his feet.
“Please don't hurt us,” was all he could think of saying.
“Michael, it may not yet be time for the lion and lamb to lay down together, but it is time for you and I to walk together. You're people are headed for very hard times, and I want them to know I will be there with them always. I know a shepherd that can lead them through this. He is good and merciful, as well as mighty and powerful. Would you like to know him?”
Michael looked up into the deep knowing gaze of the lion, and he saw the shepherd. Fear fled, and joy filled the barn. The mighty lion breathed on him, and Michael felt a garment placed on his shoulders.
“Stand up, Michael.” The deep voice spoke with authority. “It's time to prepare the way.”

My red ink is tiny. Near the end, you used you're instead of your people (I'm sure you spotted it already.) and used that instead of who in I know a shepherd who (not that) will lead them.
This story is full of great mental pictures. You really made me use my senses as I could almost hear the noises, feel the hay, and smell the air. I enjoyed it immensely.
