I'm clay upon God's wheel,
To be submissive to His hand
As on His altar kneel.
My life lies strictly up to Him,
Whatever He deems best,
Whatever trials He allows
I cannot then protest.
For clay lies yielded in His hand,
The Potter molds and kneads,
He tears apart, then joins again,
The clay simply accedes.
Sometimes He lays aside for days,
The vessel lies untouched,
Then once again made pliable,
Responsive to His touch.
He bakes it in His oven,
When fashioned for its use,
To purify and to refine,
His glory to produce.
And in the process all the way,
He's pleased in every part,
For He alone can see the plan,
His vessel from the start.
Our part to be submissive,
A yielding to God's will,
His purpose we will then fulfill
To show the Potter's skill.
"For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose." (Philippians 2:13 NIV)
"We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may be also seen in our bodies." (2 Corinthians 4:7-10 NLT)
