Listening to who you’re with, not staring at TV,
Leaning down to wipe a tear, bandaging a knee,
Learning how to join him in that dull activity.
Opening your heart to show the good and bad inside,
Owning up to what you did, when you’d rather have lied,
Offering to cook and clean for one whose sweetheart died,
Obeying the commandments of our Lord, the Crucified.
Volunteering time when you would rather stay in bed,
Voicing truths with kindness when you’d rather shout instead,
Vanquishing the bitter thoughts that pop into your head,
Valuing the outcast on his sidewalk blanket bed.
Eating her burnt cooking and pretending that it’s fine,
Embracing imperfection, saying “I’m so glad you’re mine!”
Enduring every hardship while your hearts and hands entwine,
Eternally held safely in the nail-scarred hand divine.
Looking unto Jesus as the source of all true love,
Overlooking sin that’s been forgiven up above,
Vigorous devotion that’s as gentle as a dove,
Everywhere God’s hand’s at work, seek to be His glove!

This is my favourite form of poetry too. Rhyme, meter and rhythm are excellent and the practical message even better.
