Stage setting: It is preferable to be able to simulate a sunrise as the scene goes on. Start with the stage dark with a single light on Mary Magdalene and gradually bring the stage lights up, allowing the audience to see the garden and tomb. Make use of the sunrise colors of pinks, yellows, reds, and ultimately ending with blue as the sun is completely up.

(Softly spoken) Whore, slut, prostitute...that is all that I was. Who was I to dream that I would have been someone, anyone but that? (Bitter laugh) I had almost dreamed and hoped that through the Rabbi, I would have different life, one where I would not have been judged for my past, where I would be completely forgiven by everyone—but I was a fool.
(Sets the jar down on the ground and paces, agitated.) It was He, the Rabbi, my Savior who told me that I could be more than...those words.
(Settles down and faces the audience as she quotes with a distant look on your face.) "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?... I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."*
He saved my life from certain death with those four sentences. And I didn't have to give anything in return. He gave me forgiveness when everyone around us demanded retribution according to the Law of Moses.
(Leans down to pick up the jar again.)
His forgiveness though. That changed my life. I had a chance to change my life! And I took it. The Master became my Rabbi and His followers became my family.
But now? That hope is gone, dead with the Rabbi.
They took the Rabbi and crucified Him. Our family scattered in the wind because of fear. Some took shelter in my home, but the fear lingered. How long could we stay?
(Settles the jar either on her hip or head as she walks to the tomb. Lights should be about midway up. Dawn is almost here!)
Mary, the Rabbi's mother, a few other women, and myself realized we had nothing to lose. Our hope and joy were gone. So why fear death? That's what I'm doing this morning. Giving our Rabbi a proper burial ...It will never repay Him for the hope He gave me, but...
(Mary hesitates before entering the tomb. Female voices sound of surprise and shock. His body is gone! Mary Magdalene emerges and sinks to the ground.)
Gone. They took His body. Why would they take His body?
What hope do we have now? He was our hope, in everything. Now, we can't make sure that He is gone...that this wasn't a horrible joke.
I will never hear His voice again. Why would they have done this...
Oh, Rabbi...where did they hide Your body?
(Pauses and calls off stage.)
Gardener? Where did they lay His body? Where did you...
(Jar drops and shatters.)
Master...

AN: Please note that there is no Biblical evidence that Mary Magdalene was the woman caught in adultery. The author of this piece took a little bit of leeway and chose one scholar's research to represent here.

Great message that we all need to remember as we read the Bible every day of our lives.
Well done.
God bless~
I usually find play scripts hard to read but this one wasn't. I could easily imagine what it would look like played out from your descriptions of the scenes.
The story of Mary Magdalene has always intrigued me, and you brought it to life to me.
Excellent.
