My heart’s changing from nice to mean
Comparing my home, my looks, my stuff
Discontentment says, I’ve not enough
If I had more would I still complain
that it didn’t match another’s gain
Shades of envy surely rob one of joy
Growing resentments can kill or destroy
health, friendships, small pleasures in life
Because of our sinning, the burden is strife
Ill feelings are making my small shoulders sag
I’ll try smiling the next time I hear someone brag
Desires can be harmful, damage our souls
Focus on treasures that meet heaven’s goals
Be mindful God gives a sufficient amount
Even if sometimes our pennies we count
With attitudes of cheer, tally blessings--each one
You’ll be clothed in contentment when your day is done
Storms may pummel our plans or our dreams
While others get rich from dishonest schemes
Ugly resentment infects us again
We fling evil thoughts from slingshots of sin
Have faith, look beyond disappointing events
Believe God can straighten out lives that get bent
I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. Philippians 4:12-13 (NLT)
