As they sat on their cool front porch,
“Look at those sweet little lambs
A-gamboling together
Out in the southeast pasture.”
When she mentioned at Ladies Circle
What a pretty sight she’d seen,
That is just the time the rumor mill began.
The telephone was all abuzz next day
With what some women thought
They’d heard her say.
“Did you know,” said Annie Smith,
When she called up Debra White,
“That the Lamms from church are into gambling now?
I just thought you ought to know.”
And Debra then told Lisa Shaw
That the Lamms had gone to Reno,
And she wondered if the children were alone.
So Lisa made a call to Mary Mills to say,
“The little Lamm children have no food
Since their parents aren’t at home.”
And Mary called Joanne’s house to report
That gambling had cost the Lamms their home.
“How sad that is!” said Joann to her sister.
“The Lamms have always seemed such lovely folk.”
