Fine. That’s fair.
The other kind of thin person does arm exercises while she’s stopped at a traffic signal. She eats whatever she wants but always in moderation. She knows the calorie count and fat content of everything from an avocado to a glass of zinfandel. She weighs herself every day and knows her weight to the nearest ounce.
This is a story about someone who fits the second ‘thin person’ scenario but was led to believe she could become like the first.
She grew up when ‘thin was in’ and she was not. How fortunate for her, she had a sister who fit the first 'thin person' scenario. On an almost daily basis this blessed, thin sister helped her to see her problem.
“You’re fat. You’re so fat that when you step on a scale the scale asks, ‘will one of you please get off?’”
So, the not-so-thin sister decided that if she could ever manage to lose her weight, she’d never allow it to creep back on again.
Years passed. Everyday the not-so-thin sister worked and prayed for a fitter, thinner self. She studied diet and exercise (two dreaded words which have received an undeserved ‘bad rap’). She started to practice what she’d learned and made it a daily habit. Sometimes she’d see results, sometimes she wouldn’t. It was not an easy battle but eventually (and slowly, very slowly!!)her daily work and prayers paid off. She did lose the excess pounds and she learned that to keep them away she still had to work and pray everyday. Many times a stumbling block would be thrown into her path and sometimes she would fall over it. That’s why she works and prays everyday. Some have called her obsessive and she realizes that she might be, but she likes who she is and now views her childhood weight problem as a sheep-in-wolf’s-clothing.
So, that brings us to the present day - a day when our Main character is being tempted to let down her guard, a day when she thinks she has found a new trick. A schedule change has caused a change in eating habits. Some days she goes without eating all day. Joyfully, on those days she thinks she doesn’t have to be quite so diligent with her weight watching. Also on those days a sweet little ‘sheep’ visits her and tells her the most wonderful things!
“You’ve gone without sustenance all day! You need to eat - whatever and as much as you want! Forget moderation. Indulge yourself! You deserve it.”
“Ahh yes, I do deserve this,” she thinks as she falls into the lazy boy, forty-eight ounces of salted peanut butter caramel chubby chocolate delight open in her lap; tablespoon ready to dig in. “I have fought long and hard. It’s time to sit back and enjoy.”
Huummm...Yet here come some pounds creeping back.
“Little sheep, you didn’t lie to me, did you? Little sheep? Why does your nose look so big? And why do you have such pointy-looking teeth?
Why, I’m starting to think you’re not a sheep at all!”
