Shrouds the sound of tinkling glass.
Free-flowing wine and sensuous scenes
Are hidden in clusters of nameless faces.
Lostness and human seeking
Increase the smoky denseness,
Leaving only empty longing.
Lord, where is the light?
A street is almost deserted,
In the blackness of the night.
Those drifting in or passing by
Sense unseen perils, so close and real.
Lurking evils lie in wait
To deepen the heavy darkness,
Blinding and holding their prey.
Lord, where is the light?
A home has lost its loveliness
Of brightness, hope, and joy.
Its walls, once housing laughter
Are shadowed with sadness and sin.
Commitments now are broken,
The dwelling sorely damaged.
Anger has closed its doors.
Lord, where is the light?
A hardened heart refuses change,
Though sought with earnest pleas.
A will, unyielded, makes its plans,
With selfishness the only rule.
Time will tell, it’s always sure,
The soul that shuts out truth
Is the darkest place on earth.
Lord, where is the light?
*******************
“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed.”
(John 3:19, 20 NKJV)
