My journey started with the sun,
With gentle wind and placid sea.
The race before me to be run,
With hopeful heart and spirit free.
With hand set firm upon the wheel,
I set the course that I should sail.
With confidence that I could feel,
In my own strength, I would not fail.
A Captain for my vessel small,
In foolish pride, I did not choose.
I did not see the coming squall,
And fathomed not what I could lose.
I could not see beyond the storm,
Beyond the clouds, beyond the rain.
On raging tempests I was borne,
Too far to see the shore again.
And tossed about on every wave,
I could not see an end in sight.
I needed Someone who could save
My wretched soul from dark of night.
And so the Master of the Sea,
In mercy reached to take my hand.
In loving kindness rescued me,
And in His strength I now can stand.
My journey now is with the Son,
Who stills the storms, and calms the sea.
And when my final race is done,
My outlook is... eternity.
