This is the father who hid his dismay.
This is the son who sought riches one day
From the father who hid his dismay.
This is the land in a realm faraway
Where the son squandered all of the riches one day,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
This is the famine that caused crop decay,
Then the son looked around, but his friends ran away
'Cause he'd squandered his wealth in a realm faraway,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
These are the swine with their coats dapple-gray
That dined with the son at their porcine buffet
Because of the famine that caused crop decay,
While the son looked around, but his friends ran away
'Cause he'd squandered his wealth in a realm faraway,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
This is the son who realized one day
That his Father had servants with food and more pay
Than he made feeding swine with their coats dapple-gray
While he starved dining out at their porcine buffet,
Because of the famine that caused crop decay,
While the son looked around, but his friends ran away
'Cause he'd squandered his wealth in a realm faraway,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
This is the son, who in rags was arrayed,
That was seen by the father who ran straightaway
To his son who in sorrow had realized one day
That his Father had servants with food and more pay
Than he made feeding swine with their coats dapple-gray
While he starved dining out at their porcine buffet,
Because of the famine that caused crop decay,
While the son looked around, but his friends ran away
'Cause he'd squandered his wealth in a realm faraway,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
This is the calf that was fattened on hay,
Then prepared and was served at their evening soirée
And the son now in decorative robes was arrayed
When 'twas seen by the father who ran straightaway
To his son who in sorrow had realized one day
That his Father had servants with food and more pay
Than he made feeding swine with their coats dapple-gray
While he starved dining out at their porcine buffet,
Because of the famine that caused crop decay,
While the son looked around, but his friends ran away
'Cause he'd squandered his wealth in a realm faraway,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
This is the older son, claiming foul play
For he'd never left home and had not disobeyed,
When he saw that the calf that was fattened on hay
Was prepared for the young brother's evening soirée
And his brother in decorative robes was arrayed
When 'twas seen by the father who ran straightaway
To his brother, that sadly had realized one day
That his Father had servants with food and more pay
Than he made feeding swine with their coats dapple-gray
While he starved dining out at their porcine buffet,
Because of the famine that caused crop decay,
While his brother looked 'round, but his friends ran away
'Cause he'd squandered his wealth in a realm faraway,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
This is the father, who answered this way,
"Oh my son, my belongings are all yours today,"
When he'd griped to the father and shouted, "foul play."
For he'd never left home and had not disobeyed.
When he saw that the calf that was fattened on hay
Was prepared for his young brother's evening soirée
And his brother in decorative robes was arrayed
When 'twas seen by the father who ran straightaway
To his brother, that sadly had realized one day
That his Father had servants with food and more pay
Than he made feeding swine with their coats dapple-gray
While he starved dining out at their porcine buffet,
Because of the famine that caused crop decay,
While the son looked around, but his friends ran away
'Cause he'd squandered his wealth in a realm faraway,
Bestowed from the father who hid his dismay.
This is the father, his tears wiped away,
For his son is now found, who had once gone astray.
They feasted with friends, all the foods were gourmet
At that joyful reunion, a grand holiday!
And the father who once was dismayed yelled, "Hooray!"
