Ten feet tall and very wide
Whose messages I could see and know just what to do
In every case and circumstance and always on the mark?
Suppose an illness came along
And brought me down so low
I couldn’t see the sky and wondered why
And wished it gone and found out how from a man wearing a sandwich board?
I’d see a bus as it passed by
And right before my anguished self there’d be an answer loud and clear
Or on a barn out in the field with words so big I couldn’t miss
And I’d get well and carry on and on until…
A broken heart would threaten to
Engulf my soul and hurt my pride and make me sad
But then some flyer way up high with letters larger than an elephant
Would tell me he was not the one and I’d be fine
And what if I were lost
Or out of gas or tired and flat and couldn’t think beyond one step?
A notice on a post would show me how to get pumped up
And read a map and use my head for something else besides my goofy hat
If I were scared and full of doubt
Yellow arrows on a building’s brick pointing to a place of peace
Would guide me gently for some rest to calm me down
Or lift me up to soothe my tattered weariness and dry my tears and serve me tea
For any storm or pain or question
I would find a SIGN smack dab in front of me, so convenient and easy
The perfect answer customized and full of wisdom would appear
Meant to help me down life’s path and through the ruts and junk and on to death
But wait…there is!
ALL those signs are posted in a special Book
Not flashing off and on or falling down or faded from the rain or full of silly stuff
But written by my Maker, satisfaction guaranteed, and if I can keep from being “dumber than a sign post,” as some say, all I have to do is open it and read
(sigh) Dear Me...
