There had been a rumor of forced euthanasia for those who were physically or mentally unable to care for themselves and he needed to find out if it was true. Surely, the government wouldn't start to follow the dark footsteps of those from the past. Or would they... the thought lingered and James shifted in his seat as he continued to sift through the documents.
It had to be in here somewhere and finally his eyes lighted on the words he was looking for, a simple phrase that made his blood chill; the wording almost exact to the reasoning why Nazi Germany moved to eliminate the elderly and infirm--because they were not contributing to society as a whole.
James continued to scan through the papers and a small tremor of fear went down his back. There was no way that the public would agree with everything. With trembling hand, he pushed the stacks of paper away, released his wheel chair, and left the room. James knew that he had to contact the others. They would want to know what was possibly waiting in the wings.
As soon as he was a safe distance away, James made the call.
"It's worse than you imagined, Pete. ... Yeah, possible round ups if stage one is a success. ... The Body of Christ is in danger if we don't do something. ... No--drastic measures would only inflame passions against us. ... No! I'm not saying we need to layover and die. ... Look, Pete, all that I am saying is we need to be prepared for whatever comes our way. If this passes, then, God help us all. ... Look, the vote is tonight, I need to try to drum up opposition against the bill, or at least this portion of it. Small battles right now Pete. ... Just pray."
With a heavy sigh, James made his way back into the Senate. He knew he had an uphill battle. One he was not relishing to fight. He knew if he failed, he would be dead in a matter of months, and his friends wouldn't be long in following him. That is, of course, if history chose to repeat itself.
James mashed the button to open and slowly wheeled in. He had only a few hours left. Dipping his head, he whispered, "Your will be done tonight, Father. Your will be done."

Yes, it's very believable. Our world is becoming a very selfish and cold one as we Christians cool to lukewarm.
Good take on the topic.
