ARMED AND CONSIDERED DANGEROUS
Simon smiled wryly at that thought. Armed with little more than a Bible and a laptop, and he was dangerous. Okay, so he had been a soldier in the Third World War. But, he didn't own a gun—hasn't touched one in the past year. He didn't want to touch one neither.
Simon glanced out the door and made his move. The footsteps were about as far as they would get before another set rounded the corner. His heart raced in anticipation for his short sprint across the building into the outdoors. It was obvious that a warm bed wasn't going to happen tonight.
He had to bide his time. Wait until the moment was right for him to step back into the world. He knew the government was working on ways to regulate any sort of proselytizing. He just had to wait.
Wait and pray.
Sadly, Simon was familiar with both ideas. Not so keen on waiting, but knew it was a necessary evil. His younger sister had said he had one too many close calls, his 'phew' moments, as she not so lovingly referred to them.
He glanced up at the sky and grinned. It looked like God was watching out for him tonight after all. A large cloud was moving in, obscuring the full moon for a few precious moments. He tensed, poised in a runner's stance.
Wait...
Wait...
Wait...
NOW!
He sprinted, keeping low, determined to make it into the wooded area. There he would be safe, for a matter of time. He held his pack tightly as he made his way through the higher grasses, taking care, even in a sprint, not to leave a trail. Simon knew he couldn't put his sister through the torture of him being arrested, but he couldn't keep silent either.
His pack shifted as Simon slipped into the wooded area and he whispered, "Phew, I think I'm safe. Thank you, Father."
It only took a few minutes for Simon to build a small shelter. It wasn't much, just large enough for him to get some rest and to get some work done. He settled down propping his back up against a tree and looked up before sighing. His work wasn't going to be finished with him daydreaming. With that thought, he pulled out his laptop and settled into his job counting the cost with each key stroke.
