Glimmering
Shimmering
In the sun.
Dainty ballerinas
Inviting her to join.
Twirling and spinning,
Dipping and dodging.
Dancing to their unheard songs
"Listen closely"
They bid,
"Hear the music,
Come..."
Chapped lips opened
Red tongue extended
Hoping to capture one,
Just one...
Fragile crystal.
Crunching,
Crackling,
Popping,
Swishing.
Arms spread wide
Hands stiff but embracing
Their owner enraptured
With the mysterious dance.
Don't stop...
Gloves lost,
Scarf loosen
She spins
Lost in her own world.
Princess Icicle
Ruler of her own realm
Swaying,
Bowing to no one.
Her royal highness
A splash of color
Red amidst the white
Scarlet stained ground.
She weeps as the bird falls.
Another victim claimed
A funeral to be held
She cradles close its small body
Torn between the beauty and the beast.
An innocent sacrifice
Icy tears slide down flushed cheeks
A sniffle
A wail
The beast has won.
The princess flees.
Seeking her refuge
And warmth
In her private palace.
A place of solitude
The dance continues
Inviting her to join once again.
But she refuses
Maybe another day.
