In Dallas, three families are getting ready for their summer vacation. Soon they will take to the highway in a three-car convoy, and a State Trooper will meet them and safely escort them to the state line.

At the Grand Canyon, two brothers are tired and out of breath as they pedal their way to the top of the of the bike trail at the rim of the canyon. When they finally make it to the top, some four hours later, they find another rental shack, and realize they could have instead rented their bikes there and coasted all the way down.

On the beach at Waikiki, the same two brothers are rescued from drowning after going out too far into the ocean. They never tell their parents.

In Yellowstone National Park, a father stays up all night outside the family tent, waiting and watching for the return of the large black bear that had wandered into camp the night before and licked the feet of one his children. His only weapon of defense – a frying pan.

In Colorado Springs, a mother clutches tightly to the door handle of the car as the father navigates his way up the winding, dangerous road that leads to the top of Pikes Peak. The daughter rides along in the backseat, gleefully enjoying herself.

I didn't understand a couple of the scenes presented, but I was intrigued overall with your "slices of America."
I liked how you ended it, too!
As a little side note, I've been to the Glorieta Baptist Encampment in New Mexico. It is beautiful.
