Tonight was a new start for life.
Shaphat patiently waited for the paint to dry as he consulted his sketch. Everything had to be perfect. Everything had to be precisely placed. One misplaced color and the entire picture would be ruined.
He tentatively touched the edge of the canvas and smiled. It was time to begin. With careful dedication, Shaphat dipped his brush into the silvery paint. He began by painting the outline of a mighty hunter, his foot crushing the head of a serpent, but the hunter’s face gazing towards a cross.
Shaphat paused and sucked in a deep breath.
He knew the story that was being portrayed in the painting; one that was of the future. He didn't think it would hurt this much to create this piece of art. The painting was only half finished, though. Shaphat continued pressing his lips together and once again dipped his brush into the shimmering paint. A balance soon appeared on the canvas, rapidly followed by a ram.
He had carefully placed the images of the virgin and the lion in their places. Time was drawing near; he looked over at the hourglass and nodded once.
On the horizon of the canvas, Shaphat gingerly created a beacon, whose points lead to the cross. Bittersweet tears formed in his eyes as he took a step back away from the night sky that was his canvas.
Shaphat knew that humanity would gaze up to the sky for the answers. He knew that men would see the beacon and follow its mysterious invitation to find their salvation lying in a manger.
With care, Shaphat hung the announcement of His Son in the heavens and nodded once to the Heavenly choir.
It was time.
