“Dear Lord, please help this man – You know his pain.”

Her mother was drunk and irrational again. I could tell by the tone of my daughter’s voice as she tried to console her friend – an almost nightly occurrence. Threats and verbal abuse plagued this family of struggling teens and their mom’s latest boyfriend.
“Dear Lord, please protect these children and reach their mother somehow.”

She must be in her sixties, or older. Two young children walked along side a stroller as they all crossed the highway to school. The baby had a hold of its own pudgy feet. I have seen her walking everywhere. Does she not drive? She’s all of four feet herself with silky white hair piled high walking briskly as she probably does most mornings.
“Dear Lord, please bless this grandmother as she raises her beloved grandchildren.”

I caught a glimpse of a backpack disappearing behind shrubs set close to a house. – I drove on as though I hadn’t noticed. A young boy darted out and ran toward an inside street and I sensed a troubled little soul ... a haunted expression reflected in the mirror. I turned a corner to double check, and yes, he ran in the opposite direction – his cargo heavy on his back. I stopped a police friend and told him my concerns.
“Dear Lord, please intervene in this little boy’s life.”

A young lady was standing on a back road laden down with her personal belongings. I think I know where she is headed yet I know she would not be allowed to tell me. I stopped to offer her a ride and dropped her off at a hidden dirt road along the way. At the end of that road is The Haven House for battered women.
“Dear Lord, please go with this brave young woman and guide her to You.”
***
She was dressed in black from head to toe, topping her look with hot-pink spikes. Everything about her screamed, “Look at me! Look at me!” But her tattered black fingernails betrayed the child she hid inside. She nibbles them as she waits for her friends to finish the ride at the amusement park. In one unguarded moment she is vulnerable and insecure.
“Dear Lord, please reveal to her how much you love her.”
***
Silent sorrow is everywhere I look – everywhere I go, but I am not alone before the Lord. The Holy Spirit carries the burden of intercession as my spirit prays for each and every one.
My Partner in prayer ... my Companion before the Lord ... where two or more are gathered.
Ephesians 6:18, Romans 8:26 NIV “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests ... for the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words can not express.”

I won't need a lot of red ink for these comments. These stories are lovely. Your descriptions are written with authencity. I could picture each scene.
Part of me wanted to hear more about each scene. I wanted to know what happened after that. You probably don't know, though. Still, that was what I was thinking, "What happened?" Only in Heaven. But that might be an interesting story--What's going on in Heaven when we pray. The bigger picture.
I know this will sound wrong, becasue PRAYER is such an important spiritual gift, but for the topic I wanted a little more "out of the ordinary." Okay, I feel bad for even saying it, but you said, "RED PEN." I don't at all want to belittle this most important gift! Or maybe I just wanted a more powerful ending. Perhaps a view from God being pleased with his prayer warrior, or seeing her in a situation where someone is praying for her. Just some thoughts. It's PERFECT that way it is and I had to stretch to find these things!
I don't know how you could have changed it up, maybe a paragraph explaining the source of her passion for such a ministry, or maybe a flashback to a time she wished she would have received some prayer, or maybe an acknowlegement that someone must have been praying for her through some of her sorrowful times. Anyway, I just felt it needed something.
And, I am probably the only one, but I didn't get the title completely, being a companion with sorrow when the intercessor was there to defeat sorrow.
Anyway, that is just me being, probably to honest and a lil picky.
I realy did enjoy the read and was ministered to. God bless.
