Carefully molded to work as a pair,
We stand fully aware
Of the job we must do,
A special task, just between us two.
To welcome all who come under our care,
Tall ones, short ones, and even threadbare,
Familiar names, others brand new,
But all are equal under our purview.
Some dressed plainly, others with flair,
With bright colored jackets that none can compare.
But we have discovered, from our point of view,
Externals pose little of true value.
No matter how fancy, no matter how drear,
Each gets a chance with a right to be there.
And when there's a space to make their debut,
We vow to uphold them, between us two.
When pushed to the limit with no space to spare,
And the force is so strong we can hardly bare,
We try to stand firm with courage undue
To protect what's between us without saying , “I'm through.”
Carefully molded to work as a pair,
Together we display our literary wares.
No matter how many, no matter how few,
To prop our books, it always take two.

This is just excellent with perfect flow, rhyme, and meter. You have described bookends to a tee, and made them a joy to read about.
