As I unwind at day’s closing,
with my thoughts replaying the day,
I rest in simple contentment,
and with great thankfulness I pray.

Just some ordinary hours,
from dawn until dusk tasks addressed,
but contemplating the moments,
I know the day long I was blessed!

I have had sweet doggie cuddles,
enjoyed my cookies baking smell,
got to hug my aged mom and dad,
and watch some raindrops as they fell.

I have heard the words, “I love you,”
said many times throughout this day,
I have heard the words, “I miss you,”
from loved ones who are far away.

I had hope refreshed by God’s word,
had friends visit through internet,
had poetry whisper to me,
and God paint me a grand sunset.

I had clean water to shower,
and plenty of good food to eat,
and as this cold night engulfs me,
how thankful I am to have heat!

And many things did not happen,
nothing tragic to mar my day,
every mundane, routine minute,
God kept me in so many ways.

Just to reach day’s end without hurt,
to close a day unscarred—unstressed,
to have an ordinary day—
is to have a day truly blessed!

I really enjoyed your poem and its take on the topic, different to others I've read. I love the last stanza and the positive attitude it exudes. Well done!

I’d love to have your input into the free writing lessons available on the FaithWriters forums. This week’s lesson is on writing devotionals, and next week will cover writing on topic for the weekly challenge. Look for it at http://www.faithwriters.com/Boards/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=67, or if you’re on Facebook, you can “like” Faithwriters Writing Lessons.

What a beautiful piece. It reads like a modern day Psalm. There are so many little things we take for granted. As I read your words I could feel the Spirit moving in my heart and turning it into a prayer of thanksgiving.

"Ordinary Day"s have many blessings (and during those stressful "unordinary" days, we long for the ordinary days.) This would be perfect to read at the end of every day, just to remind us of how blessed we truly are. You have wonderful thoughts in this.
