Half shaded by the empty gloom,
A sharp contrast of what had been,
If only they had listened then.
Left behind, regreting their acts,
The missing, reflecting the facts,
Like a holy magnifying glass,
Revealing the fakes in the class.
To figure out their chances now,
To try to hone their faith somehow,
They huddled there, at fear’s command,
Each with a Bible in their hand.
One then, lifted his Bible high,
The bread of life they had denied,
As one, their tears began to fall,
They’d all ignored the Savior’s call.
Then one of them began to read,
Thoughts and questions did proceed,
The sharing of what each knew,
Began to build some hope anew.
No longer boring, was God’s word,
They treasured now, each bit they heard,
Repentant hearts now set their path,
To show Hell’s lies, and God’s just wrath.
Each knife of knowledge, they then shared,
Sharpened, strengthened and prepared,
Iron sharpened iron, this night,
Weapons were forged, to fight the fight.
They vowed now, in one accord,
To welcome God’s sharp, two-edged sword,
To slice all fear and doubt to shreds,
Lest beast or guillotine claim their heads.
Their lives now taking a sharp curve,
A rough route, each knew they deserved,
They’d shunned the free and easy road,
Now tribulation’s due was owed.
They knew there was no other way,
They’d made their choice, now they would pay,
The evil horrors they’d now face,
Could have been side-stepped by His grace.
They begged for mercy and for strength,
They prayed for courage, at some length,
They wept for scorning other’s needs,
They prayed a prayer that all could heed:
Lord, give us Your wisdom, so divine,
Grind us with Your word, till we shine—
Your truth—let it slice sin’s offence,
Then may Your sword, be our defense.
Inspiration for the topic from scriptures:
Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”
Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
