I carry a cup that is mine alone.
I would trade it for no other.

I sip upon a brew of childhood memories:
My motherís soft hand on my brow,
My fatherís smile and loving hugs,
My siblings gathered Ďround me
For mealtimes day after day,
My grandmotherís cheerfulness.

I sample the joy of first loveís nectar,
Filled to the brim across the years,
Of Godís giftóa son and daughter,
Lighting every corner of my heart,
With their spouses and my grandchildren
To cover all the empty spaces.

I taste the grace from a lifetime of inspiration:
Family devotions when Daddy read the Bible,
Encouragement from Christian friends,
Beautiful old hymns to soar in my soul,
Sunday sermons by godly shepherd preachers,
The Lord to be my Constancy, my daily Guide.

I cradle the cup in my hands to warm me
Outside-in from dregs of pain and sorrow,
From a myriad of disappointments
And betrayals and bumps in the road,
But worst of all, from loved onesí long good-byes
Till sounds the trumpet of heaven.

I take a long drink of remembrances:
Days of work and days of rest,
Family times of celebration,
Goals achieved and dreams fulfilled.
I savor most of all the blessings
That fill up my cup to overflowing.

I carry a cup that is mine alone.
I would trade it for no other.

This is beautiful and really tugs at my heart. You say so much with elegance and beauty. The words flow right off the screen and into my heart.

Beautiful. You did a wonderful job on this poem. A reminder that we walk through this life carrying our own joys and burdens, and that our walk with the Lord is unlike any other.

God Bless!

I especially appreciate your use of the word "cup" in the sense that it is used in Scripture. Each stanza's cup contents delivers a poignant and beautiful message. I absolutely LOVE your two-line beginning and ending stanza. LOVE THIS!
