I do not have an ocean
Churning in my heart,
I cannot wash away the troubles
That tear this world apart,
For all the water that I have
Is held within a single cup.
The arid hearts around the world
All clamor for the sea,
I see their thirst and mourn the state
Of liquid poverty,
But what can I attempt to do?
I only have a single cup!
If I were a magician
My cup would become a spout,
An oasis in a dying land
Where life is given out,
But my attempts have been in vain,
I only have a single cup.
But even though I lack myself,
I find I can’t ignore
The crying of the desperate heart
That lies outside my door,
And though ’tis all that I’ve been given
I choose to give my single cup.
A single cup won’t change the world,
But it can save a life;
And though this act may seem too small,
I’ll save her from her plight,
And watch what God will do when I
Have sacrificed my single cup.
