Heavens, earth, and seas
were uttered into being
by the majestic voice
of Lord God Creator.
They play sweet songs together
in three-part harmony,
directed by God’s unseen hand
in performances unexcelled.
He alone holds the invisible cord
that binds them
into melody unbroken
in a never-ending concert.
For day’s prelude
the sun awakens
choruses of birds,
sheltering in leafy trees,
to sing soaring anthems.
Earth’s violins hum
with the teeming life
God has brought forth.
Trees and reeds and goldenrod
swing and sway
to the bluesy jazz of the winds.
A tympani of raindrops
pounds a syncopated rhythm
upon earth and seas alike,
accompanied by booming cymbals
of heaven’s roaring thunder.
At the bidding of the moon,
tides of the seas rush in
to swish and swoosh
and crash and slash
against the silent shore.
Heavens, earth, and seas,
bound together until the time
of the Lord’s return
with a new heaven and earth,
follow the arrangement
of their omnipotent conductor
in a melodious paean of praise.
