He announces to the world
That he is
Slightly embarrassed
About how devoutly Christian
He once was
Narrow minded
Fundamental
And quite a bit scary
He held to the truth
Living in the extremes
Now he has moved
To what he thinks is
Safer ground
He cringes to think
Of times when he prayed
Expecting God
To give him strength
What nonsense
As if God were concerned
About him
With people starving and
Dying on the other side of the planet
God looks in their direction
Not his
The truth is
Someone drew him aside
Quietly
And told him
To tone it down
Warned him
Belief in God
Is not cool
His boss disapproved
Of his piety
His colleagues didn’t like
His “Good News”
The Bible
In his pocket scared people
A crisis of faith?
He feared man more than
He feared God
And swapped the narrow gate
For something wider
