The scurrying and hurrying--it all makes me dizzy
I’ll protest, that’s it thought rebel ant, Izhe,
He scribbled his speech on an oak leaf turned red
“Is he at it again--back to work,” SergeAnt said.
His co-worker ants barely stopped to eat lunch
He thought them a foolish and quite boring bunch,
So he ditched his job, their advice he ignored
He yearned to see places he’d never explored.
Izhe’s short legs traversed rocks and slight hills
All for his quest of seeking new thrills,
It wasn’t too long when thug-bugs appeared
“Hey, who is this critter,” some smirked, some sneered.
Innocent Izhe did not know the dangers
Of forging friendships with not-so-kind strangers,
But he liked the style of life he observed
Just lazing around--that’s what he deserved.
Meanwhile his cousins, his brothers and dad
Learned he was AWOL-- “We must find our lad.”
Their diligent efforts found him half dead
For eating some crumbs of thuggy-bug bread.
Izhe, this life you’re tempted to choose
Only leads to trouble and lots of bad news,
Don’t you see, my son, we must work while we can
Sweet rest comes in winter--that’s always the plan.
Together undaunted there’s much we accomplish
Laziness gains nothing--it must be abolished,
Izhe smiled in agreement, exposing the gap
Of two missing teeth from his day of mishap.
From now on Dad, I’ll give my best shot
Help where I’m needed with all that I’ve got,
No more complainin’ my lesson’s been learned
Our labor’s rewarded when winter returns.
