Why Fear?
Storm clouds gather
Adversity’s gales
Threaten my moorings, derails
My storm tossed anchor
Rain bursts free
Delivers its vengeance
Rips my sails
Floods my soul
Floodgates uncontrolled
Rampant, rabid
Rage against the ramparts
Of my heart
The tempest wild,
Capsizes my plans
And carries them out to sea
Light from the lighthouse dims,
Shoreline blurs
Destination uncertain
I yield to the One
Asleep in the bow.
O Captain, my Captain
Calm the tempest
Of unexpected things
When all about
Are winds of doubt
And restless wonderings
Speak Thy peace
To waves of anxiousness
And fear
O Refuge, My Refuge
Capture my troubled heart
And order quietness
Master, pacifier, conqueror
For stormy gales
For plans that fail
I need not fear
When you are near
Though sails are torn
My vessel sails along
The winds and the waves
I can’t control
Your voice amid the raging tempest
Is all I need.
