Man’s most majestic thoughts sublime
In sight of Light mere shadows chase;
Who can with words His worth define
Who’s set the boundaries of time,
Who dwells beyond the bounds of space?
What value have these words of mine
Save He in mercy grants me grace,
Permits a glimmer of His face?
By centuries we count the past
For neat arrangements suit our ways;
We vividly recall the last
And mourn its passing was so fast,
The first one’s dimmed by history’s haze—
Such knowledge have ‘great men’ amassed
They scorn the records of those days,
By new ‘wise men’ the past’s appraised.
But surely Adam knew first-hand?
For after all God spoke with him;
Did he not better understand—?
Made in His image—(no cave-man)
Than men whose ‘genius’ grew more dim
Who lost the view of Eden’s land
Who wandered far away from Him,
The centuries had hardened them.
But God Himself came down to Earth—
The second Adam He is called—
Through miracle of virgin-birth,
A gift to men of priceless worth
Brought sight of Eden to us all,
Sealed our redemption by His death
(The curse of death by death forestalled)
In triumph rose—to Life we’re called!
Long centuries have passed us by,
The mists of time have cast their shroud—
Why did He come? Why did He die?
His incarnation some deny—
Just like the sun behind a cloud
Casts you in shade but lights the sky
Don’t let your faith by doubt be cowed—
His Light is ours—He has avowed.
