He walked in forest glade and wood
With His Creator, understood,
He tasted there that God was good,
Sustainer, Lord and Friend.
He loved his wife, his treasured bride,
She who’d been made from his own side.
Their taste of oneness satisfied,
Two hearts entwined to blend,
... The gift that God did send.
He watched all creatures’ harmony,
The poise from perfect symmetry,
The taste of unspoiled symphony,
On land and sea and air.
He ate of rich abundancy,
Of fruit from thornless bush and tree,
Mouth-watering tastes of exc’llency -
Profuse and copious share,
... Rich bounty everywhere.
He worked each day beneath the sun,
With joy from every task begun,
Fulfilment tasted, work well done,
Each talent honed with care.
He rested ‘neath the flowering trees,
Boughs swaying gently in the breeze,
He knew the taste of perfect peace,
In Eden bright and fair,
... For all was sinless there.
BUT doubting His Creator wise,
He coveted with longing eyes,
And listening to the tempter’s lies
He touched, he took, he ate:
The taste of death, the taste of pain,
The taste of darkness, guilt and shame,
The taste as sin began its reign,
And God barred Eden’s gate,
... He knew the truth too late.
O marvellous Redemption Plan,
Conceived before all time began:
Christ would taste death for sinful man
And suffer in their place.
He left the realms of Heaven bright,
Tasted a world of evil’s night,
And lived a life of purest light
The darkness to efface,
...O what Amazing Grace!
And there on darkest Calvary
Christ died in place of you and me
He bore our sins so we could be
Forgiven and made new.
O master death did you surmise
A victory won with His demise?
No, see the conquering Saviour rise
And taste what God can do.
...Such Love for me and you.
And now I walk through glade and wood
With my dear Saviour, understood,
And taste each day that God is good,
Redeemer, Lord and Friend.
The taste of sins forgiven and free,
The taste of love, joy and mercy,
I trust His promise - guarantee
To keep me to the end,
...I’ll then to Heaven ascend.
