I thrill at the skill of a writer
who serves up a delectable cuisine
of tasty and scrumptious morsels
and invites me to explore that. . .
Taste on the tip of my tongue
of a word unfamiliar and new
sends a rush of promised delight
as on that word I chew.
Some words are spicy and tangy
their saltiness seasons the world
while others uplift and encourage
with delicate, gentle nuance; and
I savor the flavor of words
as they pop and burst in my mouth
they surprise me with pathos or laughter
as I ponder each word out loud.
I thrill at the skill of a poet
who serves up a banquet divine
each word sends the senses reeling
I read on, hungry for more of that
Taste on the tip of my tongue
from words rich and honey-sweet
I bite into love-filled centers and
my soul is ecstatic, replete.
Not all words I taste are delicious
their vitriol curdles inside
they lack kindness, are not nutritious
in my mouth they turn to dung; but
I savor the flavor of words
that are honorable, noble, and pure
whose flavor is pleasing to God
whose essence and taste will endure.
