On your mark…

Wait!

The ink is low, I’m out of dough
I’ve lost my muse, not paid my dues
I’m stuck on pause, too many flaws
I’m on my knees. Do-over…PLEASE!

Get Ready…

I’m sick, I’m weak, can’t make the leap
My stomach’s turned, my candle’s burned
Can’t do it now, do not know how
I must confess there’ll be a mess.

Get Set…

The deadline looms but nothing blooms
What made me think I would not blink
When challenge came and called my name?
I cry, I plead, I sweat, I bleed

Go…

Push comes to shove with edit’s glove
I wail, I gripe…but still I type
Through tears I sail, just sure I’ll fail
But once begun it’s soon all done

Full Circle

It’s in on time, things work out fine
I did my best and passed the test
My story’s told, and even sold
I smile, I cheer, and then I hear

Re-Wind: On your mark…

Wait!

I might have known my cover’s blown
Man…this is tough, they want more stuff
I re-ignite and dare to write
Though rest-assured I’m more matured

Another trial confronts my style
Not scared to try a bar set high
I plunge right in to start my spin
Bring on the test, I’m feeling blessed

There’s no debate, I must create
It’s from my heart, it’s for my art
So round and round it goes and goes
And where I’ll stop…God only knows.

I really like the poem, structured as a race and then ending with a very appropriate quote from the Apostle Paul! It makes me wonder, were you watching NASCAR or did your inspiration come from the Word?
Joanne Sher 06/19/10
Very clever analogy - and the pace of this goes so well with it. Very well crafted.
Catrina Bradley 06/20/10
I love the dizzy pace of this poem - I felt like I was racing in circles reading your verse. Excellent!
Connie Dixon06/20/10
Loved this -so creatively clever. Really, really good.
Susan Montaperto06/20/10
Very clever writing. I liked how you finished with the quote from the Apostle Paul about finishing the race. Very appropriate ending. Thank you.

I so enjoyed the pace. I hadn't notice the title at first but I could definitely feel the fast pace, then the title tied it up for me. Great job.
Verna Cole Mitchell 06/21/10
Great analogy with a poem that delivers with dizzying speed.

I like how people liked your work and your confidence evolved. You only need a few bacd knocks and you don't write again.
