If there’s a list of world’s best dogs,
Our Missy didn’t make it.
Whenever chance for trouble came,
She never failed to take it.
Although she was a tiny pup,
Our poodle didn’t know it.
She’d bare her teeth and bark at us.
She’d temper, and she’d show it.
For every call to “Come” we’d make,
She’d manage to ignore it.
For any place we’d said, “Don’t go,”
She’d head right straight toward it.
If any dog would wander by,
She’d try to rush to fight it,
And if a hand got in her way,
She’d do her best to bite it.
Importance of obedience—
We truly tried to teach it,
A goal she had no interest in
And wouldn’t try to reach it.
If we’d a bar of chocolate,
We’d carefully conceal it
‘Cause if she caught a whiff of it,
She’d break her neck to steal it.
With any rule we’d make for her,
She’d hasten to defy it,
And anything we’d say, “Don’t do,”
She couldn’t wait to try it.
When scaring people was her aim,
She’d readily achieve it,
Her “Grrr” was like a hungry bear’s.
Just trust me and believe it.
Although she’d look for wrong to do,
And boldly she’d commit it,
We loved that little golden dog,
And don't mind to admit it.
When I, like Missy, don’t do right,
I’m sorry and regret it.
I know my Savior loves me still,
Forgives, and will forget it.
