A low moan echoed across the wilderness as her body strained. Her husband knelt by her side, whispering gentle words of comfort and encouragement; but the only response she would give was a grunt of concentration. Seconds passed and the grip over her uterus eased slightly.

Weakly, she collapsed against him, murmuring her curses against the serpent and the fruit. When the Maker promised that childbirth would be painful, she hadn't thought it would be...

The pain cut through her thoughts and she screamed, feeling her body betray her again. Her muscles worked hard, expelling the life that had been growing within her for most of the previous year. And then she was released.

There was another sensation. Somehow she knew; the pain was almost finished.

She struggled into a comfortable position, ignoring her husband's voiced concerns. She breathed a prayer to the Maker, asking for guidance to bring the first child into the world safely. With her husband's support, she bore down, feeling the child pass from her body into the world.

There was a pause before a thin wail filled the plains.

Exhausted, she leaned against her husband and lifted her child to herself.

She could almost hear the Maker's voice whisper, "Behold the seed of redemption, Eve. With My guidance, you have brought forth a man."

Very cool. Just imagine Eve, not knowing how the birth experience worked. Wow! Love this. Only wish it were longer.

Your story really makes me wonder what Eve thought, having had no experience of a new baby. I like how you showed that while God had them leave the Garden of Eden, He did not take away His guidance from Adam and Eve.

You have described and captured the scene of the first born on earth in painful labor very well!

Hmmm.... Eve and the very first birth... never really considered what that might have been like for her.I agree this piece could be developed into a very interesting longer story. Good job!
