How we rejoiced
the day you were born,
May 21, 2008!
And though your entrance into this world
was fraught with peril,
a cord wrapped around
your tiny baby neck,
yet God brought you safely
through birth,
a precious gift of love to us.
How amazing that
before you were born
God was lovingly putting you together,
exquisite and perfect,
forming each cell,
each tiny, dimpled finger,
your sweet baby cheeks and smile,
your eyes that sparkle like sun on water.
Our sweet, darling child,
do you know how much
God loves you?
As much as you are loved
by Mommy and Daddy,
Nana and Grandpa,
God loves you even more.
Your name, Adena Kate,
is written upon the palms
of God’s hands.
God made you and will
always take care of you.
Before we knew you,
God knew you;
yes, even before you entered this world
God knew you, God was with you.
He has numbered each hair on your head.
He watches over you each day
and protects you each night.
God enjoys watching you play;
he rejoiced at your first tentative steps;
he knows when you fall down
and when you pick yourself up.
God will be there to rejoice
at your joys and triumphs
and cry at your sorrows and failures.
He delights in each of
your accomplishments.
Throughout your life,
God will be your constant companion,
your teacher and guide,
your greatest advocate and fan.
Yes, God delights in you
and sings for joy over you.
Adena Kate, you belong to God;
you are created in God’s image,
created to bring glory to God.
When you grow up,
when you mature into the beautiful woman
God has designed you to be,
when you hear God call you by name, Adena,
we pray you will answer,
“Here I am Lord, send me.”
