I am Resentment
a wild fire burning out-of-control,
consuming, destroying.
Jesus make me Love,
burning with holy passion,
on fire to serve God and others.
I am Misery,
a scorching, arid desert
that saps strength, and
sears the soul.
Jesus make me Hope,
a sun-kissed garden
laden with life and
the warm promise of beauty.
I am Fear,
stifling, suffocating heat
where every breath is agony,
every movement is torture.
Jesus make me Faith,
a candle softly glowing,
a flame to light the way.
I am Cruelty,
an erupting volcano
spewing forth molten lava,
igniting into revenge and malice.
Jesus make me Kindness,
a crackling fire, a cozy blanket,
a warm cup of cocoa,
comfort for the cold and weary.
I am Bitterness,
an arctic blast,
bone-chilling, mind-numbing,
heart-hardening.
Jesus make me Forgiveness,
a cool breeze on a hot day,
invigorating and cleansing.
I am Hostility,
icy waves of fury
crashing, engulfing, overwhelming.
Jesus make me Peace,
a gently flowing stream of
cool, clear serenity.
I am Despair,
a frozen glacier
slowly, ponderously
grinding everything in its path.
Jesus make me Joy,
a tangy, frozen popsicle,
sweet and delightful,
brings a smile on a hot day.
I am Out-of-control,
too hot, too cold,
a raging inferno,
an icy wasteland.
Jesus set my thermostat;
bring into balance
my warring nature;
bring my temperature
under your control.
