This morning brought a mid Spring snow
Which confuses and confounds;
Bright blossoms bent and broken low,
Chill wind is trespassed out of bounds.
A day ago the sun blazed warm
To coax the burgeoned buds out wide;
The frog song hum and bee buzz swarm
Swept up to welcome temperate tide.
Bright sizzling color fades too soon to white,
A forgotten Summery promise
As Winter reasserts its right
To cloak and coat in ice.
A sunbath teased me then to blush
And grateful, shed each layer.
Now cool breeze forces bitter rush
To wrap in warm comforter of heart felt prayer.
My breath fog blurs each step I take
And stumbling forth to Fall
So now I ache for Spring and must forsake
Predictability at all.
Each prayer I say could be my last
My heart grows slowly silent;
Life’s boundaries blur when time has passed
From death to now transcendent.
