I’d not turn from home …
I think , yes … it was when a meadow was my pillow
and the swan strutted in the lake,
just for me.
But then the rains spilled, thunder threatened a deep loud noise,
liightening sparred with me so strong,
and while I slipped down the slope,
my swan stopped its strut,
so I moved to another house,
another green lawn.
My meadow became a swamp …
I could not
and so even though I’d sworn …
away from home ...
Peter swore the same, they say,
Hear the cock crow now?
I hear the cock crow now.
So I want to come home to Christmas
To the home that I once knew.
fools should pull me from the Truth,
hold me captive for awhile
help me renew?
Help me to forgive myself
and my own mistakes?
hold it over my tangled hair
Then I’ll reach for
I want to see that baby snuggle in the hay
And hear Him cry,
Come home to me.”
I need to come home to Christmas
to the home built for me …
I was free
to roam a million miles ,
now I’m free to come back home.
Outside my window,
the Moon weeps,
for in all my travels on the earth
never was there anything of worth
and all along the Moon knew
I would not find a place where I could
lay my head,
lay my head down to sleep
Now I want to be home,
Home to Christmas …
So will You
tear down my unsafe walls?
See me through the forest
to find the perfect Christmas tree?
I want to
wear out my welcome,
risk discovering the fine art of me,
You say I can never wear out my welcome,
my welcome with thee.
I’d love to come home to Christmas …
I remember it’s a home I can live in,
where the curtains blow fresh air
inside to breath,
where I can see the heart of God,
hang my coat on the Morning Star,
I want to come home to Christmas,
because Christmas isn’t a holiday,
Christmas is eternity.
I want to come home to Christmas …
To a table set finely
with Christmas china and such.
Will You meet me at the table?
There we’ll share a simple roll,
there You'll pour the wine all through my soul,
I will come home to Christmas, with recollections of joy,
a song to sing
I’m home to Christmas.
