Thomas Chambers waited excitedly for the Holo-vid tech to point his way. Breathing in deeply, he mentally jounced through his celebratory speech. In moments, his holographic image would appear in PCDs* world-wide, automatically translated and digitally lip-synched for his ethnically-diverse audience.

At the signal, Thomas’ enthusiasm gushed out, “This is the day the Lord has made!” pausing to allow participants, including those in the HV studio, to provide the expected response: “We shall rejoice and be glad in it!”

“Today we celebrate 100 years of peace around the globe! We are thankful to the Lord our God for bringing an end to the never-ending strife that mankind has endured since being forcefully evicted from the Garden of Eden.”

“This golden age was ushered in when God provided Joseph Webster the insight necessary to invent what he called the TIME-Viewer*. Using that same device, we have learned that Joseph Webster, who his friends endearingly called “Josephus” after the noted first century historian, was likewise a man enthralled with the past. But while his passion may have been directed to the past, his innovations were futuristic beyond any scope of imagining. It is no exaggeration to say that the invention of the TIME-Viewer changed the world.”

“During an era when the world hovered on the brink of destruction, Joseph Webster sought understanding in the past. He endeavored to construct a device which would digitally regenerate latent photonic images and re-animate them such that one could focus upon any scene from history. Webster had no particular motive to achieve riches nor did he anticipate the far-reaching ramifications of this device.”

“Law enforcement was the first to recognize the significance of the TIME-Viewer. Its testimony was first accepted in the landmark case of “The People vs. Malekandra.” The trial evolved into a scholastic validation of the authenticity of the TIME-Viewer’s resonate images. The data was laboriously analyzed and compared to historic video documentation from various archives and found to be 100% reliable testimony. Joseph Webster had invented a window into the past.”

“The immediate impact of the TIME-Viewer caused levels of crime to fall near zero; law enforcement now had a powerful ally for solving crimes and tracking fugitives; and juries required little time to deliberate facts.”

“As TIME-Viewer technology became more accessible, record numbers of “Historical Detectives” appeared, eager to uncover the great mysteries of history. Soon we had the answers to how the pyramids were created and the true purpose of Stonehenge. The most enterprising HDs, utilized the TIME-Viewer to locate lost treasures in the form of sunken ships and lost goldmines.”

“Joseph Webster never imagined that his invention would ultimately lead to global peace and a one-world religion.”

“Since the fall of the Roman empire, one topic has spawned more questions, more debate, and sadly more wars than any other, the topic being: Jesus of Nazareth. For centuries, religious zealots and atheists alike argued over whether he was a prophet of God, a great teacher, or if he even existed. Joseph Webster unsuspectingly provided the mechanism that would at long last answer all of those questions.”

“It is safe to say that every moment of Jesus’ life has been scrutinized from every possible angle and perspective. Medical specialists have intensely viewed the miracles that he performed to give people sight and to heal great diseases such as leprosy. They have used the TIME-Viewer to carefully document that these people did indeed exhibit these afflictions prior to encountering Jesus and that they were inexplicably healed. Physicists watched Jesus demonstrate his authority over the elements of wind and rain and were left shaking their heads. Psychologists observed his casting out of demons leading them to redefine the basis of their profession.”

“All of this was the Evidence that mankind wanted. We metaphorically stood before Jesus, saying ‘Show us the nail-marks in your hands and we will believe. Let us place our hand in your side, and we will follow you.’ The TIME-Viewer allowed us to do precisely that.”

“I’m sure each of you can remember exactly where you were the first time you saw the TIME-Viewer re-enactment of the Resurrection of Christ and his emerging from the tomb and later his bodily ascension into heaven. In light of the overwhelming evidence, the people of Earth humbled themselves in worship to God the Creator, and we honor Jesus the Risen, as the Son of the One True Living God.”

Very interesting perspective. I'm still pondering what it's telling us. The Millennium ushered in by technology? A cautionary tale about the need to see (blessed are those who believe without seeing...)? Thought-provoking and fun.

This is an interesting read, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
One thought to consider, though: I tend to think that even seeing the Resurrection would not cause some people to repent. Think of the Pharisees who knew that Christ had risen, but still tried to cover it up for the sake of their own pride and power.
Thanks for sharing!

To add what I just said: someday every knee WILL bow - the only question is how that is going to happen... :)

This is pretty good! A more uplifting take on sci-fi. I loved the line with finding the true purpose of stonehedge. ^_^ Now that is one mystery I'd love to solve! Great writing!
