With good intent, I cast my net
and sought the river’s prize,
Unknown to me the sea I sailed
was meant for souls unwise.
Then, suddenly a storm arose
with fierce iniquity,
How was I caught without a plan
against this wicked sea?
My vessel failed to shelter me
from whirling winds and rain,
I then became the helpless bait
of evil’s wicked game.
The waves had crashed upon each side
relentlessly they slammed,
And though I hoped to make it through
my soul knew I was damned.
Despite desires to catch a wave
of reassuring peace,
I found my boat without the strength
to make the storm’s rage cease.
Did I belong here in this boat
designed by human hands?
Or did the Captain near the shore
create the perfect plans?
I sensed this wasn’t where to fish
for wisdom, truth or love,
Nor was this boat a way to reach
the prize that I dreamed of.
I knew without the Captain’s help
my net would never hold,
The things that I was searching for -
A savior once foretold.
I thought that I should change my course
to find a better way,
Or was it wise to jump my boat
and let it go astray?
“Oh, yes it’s wise,” He did reply
“Just swim across to me,
You’ll find the One to help you float -
I’ll guard you’re destiny.”
“I came to teach you how to build
a strong and mighty boat,
But if you don’t accept my aid
you’re surely not to float.”
“For there’s no storm you won’t survive
no winds can take you down,
Just yield to me; surrender all
I promise you won’t drown.”
“Oh, God, I’d love to have a ship
that’s safe and strong like yours,
I’ll take the route laid out for me
that leads to tranquil shores.”
So, I released my net and boat
they sank into the sand,
for now my refuge lay within
the grasp of Jesus’ hand.
No longer shall I sail the seas
that man has come to lust,
since now my boat is chartered by
the One I’ve come to trust.
I fish no more to find the things
that man has languished for,
it’s in my search I’ve recognized
my Captain’s golden ore.
You see, my prize was never found
In waters known to man,
It’s in the realm of things divine
within His holy plan.
With good intent, I cast my net
To find those lost at sea,
My Captain’s there to guide our way
prepared to take the lead.

...because sometimes what we must do is just NOT the thing that makes sense to us. We want to hang on to the sinking boat...
Well, no sense in me preaching what your poem so wonderfully taught. Great, great job.
Easy flow, a great read and a great message we all can relate to. Welcome back girlfrin! :)
