At birth, we each begin as a blank slate, full of love and possibilities. As the years pass, we receive many messages about who we are and how we are perceived. Whose voice do you hear – theirs, yours, or His?

Age 0:
“Our angel, so precious, our beautiful child,” they beamed.
I am loved, I am beautiful, I smiled.

Age 5:
“You’re fat! You’re ugly!” they taunted.
My mommy says I’m beautiful, I frowned.

Age 15:
“Look at her! She’s pathetic. Look how awful she dresses,” they sneered.
Mom says God thinks I’m beautiful, I hoped.

Age 25:
“You’ve gained so much weight, I almost didn’t recognize you,” they snickered.
I know God thinks I am beautiful, I reassured.

Age 35:
“You don’t look bad for having three kids,” they consoled.
I am who God says I am, and I am beautiful, I believed.

Age 45:
“You look fantastic, so healthy and fit. I’d never have guessed you are forty-five,” they marveled.
You are beautiful and beloved, my child, I heard.
