To be mature Christians, we must grow in obedience, knowledge, wisdom, and truth. As we develop in the Lord, and in the things of the Lord, we move from one spiritual level to the next. Every level has to be successfully completed before we can budge. Each separate level must come to an absolute end before we qualify for greater heights in our walk with God.
In other words, before God, the Creator and Maker, promotes us to a higher spiritual level, He has to be satisfied with our accomplishments and achievements on our current level. Then and only then will our spiritual journey escalate beyond anything we can think of or imagine. We, God’s people, are destined to move upward from level to level and glory to glory.
If you desire higher heights in the Lord, then ask yourself: Am I walking in obedience to the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ? Is my life a reflection of Jesus’ life? When those that walk in the ways of the world look at me, can they see a better way of life portrayed in my everyday living? Do I truly desire to do those things that please my Heavenly Father? Am I more concern with what God can do for me, rather than, what I can do for God? Upon answering these questions, be true to thine self.
Unlike the world, it is important for us to know that God is not going to lower His values to fit our ungodly lifestyle. We must strive to meet God’s standards. Our way of life must come to an end if we truly want to receive everything God has for us in this world and in heaven.
We must spend time reading and studying the Scriptures daily. We ought to meditate on them day and night. We should keep them forever before our eyes and in the center of our hearts. Therefore, ask God to teach you, and to show you the way that you should go. In the words of an old gospel song, “Let the Holy Ghost(Spirit) lead you.” You will not regret it.
If Christ Jesus is our Savior, you and I must decrease so that God can increase in our lives. We have to deny our carnal persona. We must focus on the things that are from above. Our ways must end so that God’s way can begin in us. Since God will not lower His values, and since we want all the things He has for us, then, we must diligently make every effort to raise our standards to meet His. God will even aid us in doing just that. He will help us to qualify for all the blessings He has for us. It is written in the Scriptures, “Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you”(James 4:8a). What an awesome God!
The end of ungodly habits ushers in the beginning of a new godly way of life. So do not hesitate to start afresh now, if you have not already begun. Let today be the first day of your new saintly commitment to a better lifestyle and to new godly beginnings. My prayer is for you to be continually clothed in the righteousness of Almighty God. Amen.
